Lunch Club- Bournemouth Civic Society-Social 2012

The Lunch Club support is again thriving, with a core of regular members attending each month and others joining us from time to time when ever they can. We are still heeding the view which has been expressed that as the economic climate is not good it could be advantageous for us to travel only short distances for the immediate future. The programme has therefore been made with this in mind using some of the previously tried and tested venues plus a couple of recommended new ones. Please book with Beryl as early as you can since places need to be booked at the chosen venues.

Civic Society Garden Party on Saturday 6th August 2011.   After a week of lovely weather it was a disappointment to see the forecast for the weekend advising that rain, and lots of it, was on the way for Saturday, the day of another of our Garden Parties. Our very well rehearsed team of gentlemen went to the venue on the Friday to erect the five gazebos ready for our function taking with them all that would be required except the perishables. That evening it poured with rain and the following morning it still persisted. However things improved and by eleven it was only the odd spot of rain and so the food was prepared and the stalls decked out in their goodies. A small group of newly put together young disabled musicians set up their instruments and began to play softly, very tasteful music. The sun shone and folk arrived and all was very pleasant. The occupier of the property ,who is a very well known speaker, gave a very good talk for about fifty minutes on the beautiful property and grounds. Folk listened in the sun mesmerised as the story unfolded. The cream teas consisting of newly baked scones covered with butter, strawberry preserve, cloted cream and faned strawberies were accompanied by further fresh strawberries and an assortment of pastries plus a bone china mug of steaming fresh tea. These were happily consumed in the lovely surroundings. Five o'clock quickly arrived and the proceedings were brought to a happy conclusion with the Chairman, Ken Mantock, giving a presentation of suitable gifts to the kind couple who had lent us their home. Thank you to all who attended and especially those who kindly helped. The occasion was very sucessful and most folk left asking for other such functions to be arranged in future programmes.
